American Formula 3 driver Logan Sargeant has joined Williams Racing’s Driver Academy after finishing 7th in this year’s F3 championship.
Florida born Sargeant joins Jack Aitken, Roy Nissany and Jamie Chadwick in the team’s academy, slotting in the gap left by the outgoing Dan Ticktum, who was considered surplus to requirements earlier in the year after doing ‘Dan Ticktum’ things.
Logan Sargeant began his motorsport career the traditional way – in karting – in 2008, before graduating to cars in 2016 with F4, Formula Renault Eurocup and then to Formula 3 in 2019, aged 18.
Sargeant had wished to step up to F2 in 2021, but lack of finances prevented him from doing so, instead opting for a third season in F3 with Charouz.
Three seasons into his Formula 3 career, finishing 19th, 3rd and 7th, scoring ten podiums and three victories, Williams spotted enough to want to bring him on board.
Jost Capito, Williams CEO told WilliamsF1.com:
“I am incredibly pleased to welcome Logan to the Williams Racing Driver Academy. He’s demonstrated his talent in FIA Formula 3, consistently delivering strong results in an extremely competitive field.”
“I’m proud that Williams will play a part in supporting the progression and growth of another talented young driver.”
As a Williams Academy driver, Sargeant will be ‘fully immersed’ in the Williams Team, both in the factory and trackside, as well as conducting important development work on the team’s F1 car, and in the simulator.
In exchange, Sargeant’s ties with the Williams Team and the kudos and visibility he’ll get from that should help him realise the funding he needs to secure the Formula 2 drive that would be the natural next step in his career progression towards Formula 1.
Welcome to the team Logan!
