The season began promisingly for the Williams FW28 when in the opening round of the 2006 Formula 1 World Championship in Bahrain, drivers Mark Webber, in his second season with the team, and new-boy Nico Rosberg, reigning GP2 Champion and son of former Williams World Champion Keke Rosberg brought their cars home sixth and seventh.
That early promise was short lived, however, as after Rosberg qualified in third for the following round in Malaysia, only three more points finishes were to follow over the course of the rest of the season.
Persistent handling issues were largely to blame for the FW28’s lack of pace, however, there were bigger issues in that when the car did show the occasional flash of competitiveness, races would invariably be compromised by the FW28’s reliability.
